Verruca and fungal nail treatment

Verrucas and fungal nail infections can be stubborn, frustrating and sometimes embarrassing, but effective treatment is available.

 

At Appleby Podiatry, we offer evidence-based care tailored to the individual, rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. 

We also offer acrylic nail reconstruction. This involves building an acrylic layer over a fungal-affected nail to create a natural appearance, allowing the nail to be painted if desired.

Verrucas (plantar warts)

Verrucas are viral infections of the skin on the sole of the foot. They may be:

  • Painful when walking

  • Flat with a rough surface

  • Surrounded by thickened skin

  • Resistant to over-the-counter treatments

Verruca treatment options

Treatment depends on your age, activity level, immune system and symptoms. Options may include:

  • Debridement (removal of hard skin)

  • Targeted treatments to stimulate immune response

  • Pressure relief and footwear advice

  • Monitoring where appropriate

Fungal nail infections

  • Fungal nail infections often cause:

  • Thickened or discoloured nails

  • Crumbly or distorted nail shape

  • Difficulty cutting nails

  • Spread to other nails if untreated
